Jesus Salas is a community outreach member for the CHAPMAN Partnership for the Homeless.

Since opening their doors in 1995, Chapman Partnership has admitted nearly 100,000 men, women and children experiencing homelessness in Miami, Fl and the surrounding areas. Their mission to provide comprehensive services to empower homeless residents to become self-sufficient and regain their lives.

Jesus Salas believes that the organization is providing life-altering experiences for the local homeless community. When a person becomes homeless, it affects every aspect of their life. It attacks the person’s self-esteem and makes them feel hopeless. Nothing is more debilitating then feeling helpless in one’s ability to provide for their family and their future.

I am working on bringing awareness to the homeless family situation in South Florida to the Hispanic community. I was deeply touched by visiting the center the first time and seeing the families and the children receiving such an amazing care and support to get their lives back on track” said Jesus Salas.

The center treats each person as an individual and uses a holistic approach to care. Chapman Partnership not only provides emergency housing, but also provides a wide array of programs such as: comprehensive case management; health, mental and dental care; day care and after school services; job development, training, and placement, plus help from a variety of social service agencies, volunteers, donors and partners

Along the way to 100,000 admissions, Chapman Partnership has also achieved many other impressive milestones such as: So far, they have admitted nearly 20,000 homeless children and with the help of their 20,000 volunteers, they serve 3 hot meals a day, 365 days a year, adding up to 800,000 meals per year. Chapman Partnership also offers medical and dental. Their two medical clinics have seen more than 167,000 patient and their mobile dental unit has performed more than 76,500 procedures. What What impresses Jesus Salas the most is the organizations success rate, which is an amazing 64% in placing their residents into permanent or transitional housing compared to the nations average of 15%.

Besides being a committee outreach member for Chapman Partnership, Jesus Salas is also involved in other community organizations such as the Children Youth Life Foundation for the terminally ill kids, being the co-chair for Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation “Inaugural Gentleman’s Night”,  raised over $400k for the inaugural event for the foundation. Jesus Salas of Miami participated once again with the Children and Youth Life Foundation of Miami. The Children and Youth Life Foundation of Miami has publicized the problem of uninsured children, says Jesus Salas of Miami. It is for this reason that Jesus Salas of Miami has worked hard to support solutions for this problem, which disproportionally affects disadvantaged and disabled children from low-income families. According to Jesus Salas of Miami, the Children and Youth Life Foundation has been working to support these families since 1980 – that’s almost 35 years in the field.

According to Jesus Salas of Miami, the program focuses both on children and their parents, providing resources about issues of abuse and supporting the safety, health, and wellness of children. Some of the resources provided by the organization include medical services, health counseling, food, and school supplies, says Jesus Salas of Miami.

“I am truly thrilled and humbled to be participating in the CYL Foundation Toy Drive this holiday season,” comments Jesus Salas of Miami. “This program works so closely with disabled and disadvantaged youth, and it’s so important to provide services beyond just basic healthcare.” According to Jesus Salas of Miami, one of the best things about a holiday toy drive is its positive effect on children’s emotional health – which itself can be the best medicine.

Past toy drives have been enormous events, with visits from local celebrities – like the mascot of the Florida Marlins baseball team, Billy the Marlin. According to Jesus Salas of Miami, the fun factor is one that is often overlooked by charity and nonprofit organizations that deal with serious issues such as those of disabled and disadvantaged children and youth. For Jesus Salas of Miami, helping out kids doesn’t just mean bringing their medical needs to the forefront – it also means helping these young people enjoy a better life with a brighter future. The CYL Foundation’s toy drive will do just that, says Jesus Salas of Miami.

Music Makes You Smarter

Did you know that music education can actually make you smarter? Jesus Zeus Salas of Miami advocates for music education due to the many studies that have shown how music helps students do better in school. Such research has found that by studying music, young people develop their brains to more quickly and easily understand complex thoughts. Jesus Zeus Salas believes that if schools begin mandating music education at a young age, children will grow up to be better thinkers.

Music is Athletic

In addition to being academic, Jesus Zeus Salas knows that music can be athletic. By learning to sing or to play an instrument, young students can better develop their coordination, lung capacity, and even their strength. This allows students who are not interested in sports to still find an activity that allows them to use their bodies. Jesus Zeus Salas asserts that through music education, students can improve both their minds and their physical health.

Music Provides an Emotional Outlet

Finally, music education is important because music provides an emotional outlet. As someone who has worked with children frequently, Jesus Salas understands that all young people need an emotional outlet where they can express their feelings in a constructive manner. Because of this, Jesus Salas is a supporter of music education in all schools.

Having worked in radio for the past 20 years, Jesus Salas of Miami knows the importance of networking. As companies attempt to find ways to connect with the Millennials, Jesus Salas of Miami has some tips for both companies and individuals.

The internet has opened up a huge range of options and ways to network that have never before been seen. People have more ways than ever to connect with those that they know and to make connections with others through those that they know. Jesus Salas of Miami encourages Miami’s citizens, as well as those nationwide, to work to make connections.

Jesus Salas of Miami attended Miami’s annual Conference held by Radio Ink. This type of event is the perfect place to make contacts. Attending events on topics that you are interested in is the best way to make contacts that you are sure have similar goals, interests, and knowledge to you. People attend events like these in order to meet ideas with like-minded people.

Use Social Networking

Jesus Salas of Miami knows Miami’s businesses have benefitted from the move to social media. Jesus Salas recommends using social networking to everyone, as it can work to the advantage of both businesses and individuals. Businesses have the opportunity to market and reach their consumer base like never before with targeted ads and promotions. Today’s digital society allows consumers to better get to know a brand. That is also a benefit for individuals. Many people have found professional connections and success through connection on social networking sites like LinkedIn. Jesus Salas of Miami does warn people to be sure they are responsible about their use of social networks, however, as they can easily turn from helpful to damaging.

Connect with Similar People

Whether using social networks, or getting out in the world to meet like-minded people at a conference at event, Jesus Salas of Miami encourages Miami’s young people, as well as those nationwide to get out and connect with others. Salas says that young people often do not realize the opportunities that they have as a young person to learn about a person and their business. Jesus Salas encourages young people to begin to develop their interests and to take some time to ask for tours or to participate in summer programs. It’s never too early to begin establishing contacts.

Jesus Salas of Miami knows that networking can be hard, but technology is a huge help to that cause. It helps bring people together as far as events and meeting each other. Jesus Salas of Miami encourages people to use the gift of technology to help better connect with each other.

Jesus Zeus Salas Talks About Fundraising

For most non-profit organizations, fundraising is the key to success. Without volunteers doing what they can to garner donations from supporters, activities screech to a halt, and populations and causes go on being underserved. Jesus Zeus Salas, a radio broadcasting professional in Miami, is deeply involved in a number of charitable causes within his community, and has chaired multiple events (such as the Gentlemen’s Night for the Miami Children’s Hospital) that have required a significant amount of fundraising acumen. Here, Jesus Zeus Salas shares some of his tips for successful fundraising.

Start Early. In order to reach your fundraising goal, Jesus Zeus Salas highly recommends getting the word out about events and beginning to collect donations well in advance. Try to do things last minute, Jesus Zeus Salas says, and you’re more likely to fall up short.

Advertise Widely. One of the most crucial parts of fundraising is alerting friends, family, and the community at large that you’re having an event or campaign. As a broadcasting professional, Jesus Zeus Salas knows how to get a message out, but the basic principle is simple. Cast a wide net, invest in professional-quality materials, and be persistent.

Go Beyond Cash. When planning an event, Jesus Zeus Salas says to remember that you can ask for donations of more than just money. Planning to have food at your event? Locate a caterer or restaurant who would be willing to donate their services. Want to create flyers, brochures, or event programs? Find a printer who wants to support your cause. The possibilities are endless.

Be Patient. Fundraising is an ongoing process, says Jesus Zeus Salas, and it’s one that requires patience. Don’t expect one event to raise all of the money you’ll ever need. Instead, consider holding seasonal fundraising events, and make your organization’s biggest event of the year an annual one.
