The Value of Learning a Second Language

Many academic hubs advocate the use of learning a second language, yet many people in the Nation have not attempted, or do not even have an interest in putting a second language under their belt. This is a sad truth, and one that needs to change if the United States wishes to climb forward to a more prosperous future of global interdependence in the world. With countries coming together in trade and business, and cultures being shared all over the world, it is necessary that Americans begin to have some understanding of the differences.

The United States population accounts for only 4% of the world, according to The United States Census. With such a small percentage of the world, it’s crazy to think that people live their lives believing that the United States is everything that the world has to offer. So many opportunities are beyond the borders, and yet the barriers of language and culture prevent Americans from gaining them. The answer is learning a language other than English. This decision is not as difficult as it seems, and only takes a little bit of effort to get enough understanding under you to make basic communications with people from other countries.

With another language in hand, Jesus Salas made his way up the ladder of the Radio Broadcasting industry, and is now the Executive Vice President of Programming for the Spanish Broadcasting System. Because of his knowledge of the Spanish language, he was given this amazing opportunity to promote himself and achieve excellent success in radio broadcasting from a very young age. If it weren’t for his diversity, Jesus may have not gotten the skills needed to make his way to the top as one of the nation’s radio broadcasting leaders.

Along the way to 100,000 admissions, Chapman Partnership has also achieved many other impressive milestones such as: So far, they have admitted nearly 20,000 homeless children and with the help of their 20,000 volunteers, they serve 3 hot meals a day, 365 days a year, adding up to 800,000 meals per year. Chapman Partnership also offers medical and dental. Their two medical clinics have seen more than 167,000 patient and their mobile dental unit has performed more than 76,500 procedures. What What impresses Jesus Salas the most is the organizations success rate, which is an amazing 64% in placing their residents into permanent or transitional housing compared to the nations average of 15%.

Music Makes You Smarter

Did you know that music education can actually make you smarter? Jesus Zeus Salas of Miami advocates for music education due to the many studies that have shown how music helps students do better in school. Such research has found that by studying music, young people develop their brains to more quickly and easily understand complex thoughts. Jesus Zeus Salas believes that if schools begin mandating music education at a young age, children will grow up to be better thinkers.

Music is Athletic

In addition to being academic, Jesus Zeus Salas knows that music can be athletic. By learning to sing or to play an instrument, young students can better develop their coordination, lung capacity, and even their strength. This allows students who are not interested in sports to still find an activity that allows them to use their bodies. Jesus Zeus Salas asserts that through music education, students can improve both their minds and their physical health.

Music Provides an Emotional Outlet

Finally, music education is important because music provides an emotional outlet. As someone who has worked with children frequently, Jesus Salas understands that all young people need an emotional outlet where they can express their feelings in a constructive manner. Because of this, Jesus Salas is a supporter of music education in all schools.

Jesus Zeus Salas, Executive Vice President of Programming for Spanish Broadcasting Systems (SBS), has been working in the radio industry for over 20 years. Since 1992, Jesus Zeus Salas has held positions in the music industry, and his experience has shown him what it takes to get discovered as a new artist in the industry. Getting discovered as a new artist is very difficult because music is such a competitive business. However, with these tips from Jesus Zeus Salas, you can begin a successful music career.

Hold Live Shows

One of the most important ways to start your successful music career and get discovered is to play live shows. Live shows gain you fans, and if your fans become dedicated, they will want to purchase your albums and band merchandise. Having a substantial fan base increases your likelihood of being discovered by a recording company, and it shows them that you can actually sell yourself to people who are interested in your music. Jesus Zeus Salas states that loyal fans are the driving force behind any successful artist.

Record a Demo

The next step in getting discovered by a recording company is to create your demo. A demo will show potential recording companies the music that you play, and having a demo on hand is wise – you never know when you could come into contact with someone who is important in the industry. In addition, you can sell your demo at live shows to begin making money and to show potential recording companies that your music will sell. Jesus Zeus Salas believes that an excellent demo is the top factor recording companies are searching for when it comes to new talent.

Distribute a Press Kit

Another important piece of beginning your successful music career is the press kit. Your press kit should have your demo as well as information on you as an artist and a headshot. In addition, the press kit should include any articles that have been published about you and your music. You can distribute this press kit to anyone in the industry whom you come into contact with.

Hire a Manager

Finally, one of the best ways to get discovered more quickly is to hire a good manager. The manager you choose needs to believe in your talent. The main benefit to having a manager is networking. Your manager will have contacts within the industry, enabling you to share your music and get discovered.

A big part of this success is due to the fact that Jesus Zeus Salas has infused the radio station with the types of music that Latinos want to listen to. The station plays more bachata, which is a style that many from the Dominican Republic enjoy hearing. Jesus Zeus Salas says he is adding music like this across the board that Latinos coming from all parts of the Latin American world can enjoy.

Jesus Zeus Salas clearly understands his audience, and proves that by playing the music they want to hear. However, he also knows how to communicate with his audience by promoting his radio station in ways that reach them. Jesus Zeus Salas promotes the radio station through social media marketing and other online promotional efforts. He believes, “When you remain hyper-local, you will always have a strong place in the people’s hearts and minds.”

He also attributes much of this success to the man he has put behind the microphone at the beloved radio station. His name is Alex Sensation and he has been pulling in listeners in the middays for some time now. “It doesn’t matter where you’re from,” Jesus Zeus Salas says, “He connects with Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, and Central and South Americans.”

Jesus Zeus Salas is excited about the performance of Alex Sensation and all the on air staff, and he has every right to be. Since the time that the radio station added Alex to their broadcasting lineup, the radio station has jumped up to number one in persons ranging in age from 18-34 and 18-49. Jesus Zeus Salas says, “It’s like a party.” That certainly seems to be the case as the radio station celebrates the fact that Mega 97.9 pulls, on average, 97 percent Hispanic listeners. What is incredible about this is that, of the population in the surrounding area, only 23 percent are Latino.

Jesus Zeus Salas Talks About Fundraising

For most non-profit organizations, fundraising is the key to success. Without volunteers doing what they can to garner donations from supporters, activities screech to a halt, and populations and causes go on being underserved. Jesus Zeus Salas, a radio broadcasting professional in Miami, is deeply involved in a number of charitable causes within his community, and has chaired multiple events (such as the Gentlemen’s Night for the Miami Children’s Hospital) that have required a significant amount of fundraising acumen. Here, Jesus Zeus Salas shares some of his tips for successful fundraising.

Start Early. In order to reach your fundraising goal, Jesus Zeus Salas highly recommends getting the word out about events and beginning to collect donations well in advance. Try to do things last minute, Jesus Zeus Salas says, and you’re more likely to fall up short.

Advertise Widely. One of the most crucial parts of fundraising is alerting friends, family, and the community at large that you’re having an event or campaign. As a broadcasting professional, Jesus Zeus Salas knows how to get a message out, but the basic principle is simple. Cast a wide net, invest in professional-quality materials, and be persistent.

Go Beyond Cash. When planning an event, Jesus Zeus Salas says to remember that you can ask for donations of more than just money. Planning to have food at your event? Locate a caterer or restaurant who would be willing to donate their services. Want to create flyers, brochures, or event programs? Find a printer who wants to support your cause. The possibilities are endless.

Be Patient. Fundraising is an ongoing process, says Jesus Zeus Salas, and it’s one that requires patience. Don’t expect one event to raise all of the money you’ll ever need. Instead, consider holding seasonal fundraising events, and make your organization’s biggest event of the year an annual one.

How to Get Discovered in the Music Business with Jesus Zeus Salas

With over twenty years of experience in the broadcasting business, Jesus Zeus Salas has learned a thing or two about what it takes to get discovered. For aspiring musical artists, “getting discovered” is the coveted first step towards a successful and profitable career in the music industry. Jesus Zeus Salas has a few tips for those who want to get their music out there, with the goal of securing a contract with an agent and record label.

Develop your talent. Before you even think about getting in touch with record labels, put in the hard work that will make your music irresistible. Jesus Zeus Salas knows that it can be temping to drive right in, but developing a unique sound and personality now will make you more distinctive and attractive to labels later on.

Create a following. Record labels want to know that you’re going to be a good investment. Jesus Zeus Salas recommends playing live shows in your home city to drum up a following. In addition, and Jesus Zeus Salas cannot stress enough the importance to develop a strong online and social media presence.

Record a demo. Put together a compilation of five to eight of your best songs that really showcase your range and style. Jesus Zeus Salas suggests having physical CDs on hand to sell at shows, as well as a digital version.

Make a press kit. If your shows garner any reviews, combine them with a brief biography, some photos, and your demo. That way, you’ll have your act’s “resume” available to give to potential contacts in the industry at any point.

Approach labels. These days, it’s less about “getting discovered” than making that discovery happen yourself, says Jesus Zeus Salas. Research the record labels that will work best for you, and then send them your press kit. Taking the first step is often far more effective than waiting for an agent to happen to appear at one of your shows.
