Congratulations to the Programming team at our flagship New York City station, WSKQ-FM (“Mega 97.9”)

Our on air team, has hit a historic point in the ratings Beating every station in New York City

WSKQ-FM #1 In NYC Jesus Salas
WSKQ-FM #1 In NYC Jesus Salas Team

SBS EVP of Programming, Jesus Salas, added “in order to achieve a #1 ranking among all of NYC radio stations, is a true showing of how team work, dedication, commitment and excellent execution of the on air strategies work remarkably well – it’s history in the making. The station has forged an unbreakable bond with millions of listeners in a truly unique way.  Congratulations to the team!”

Radio continues to impact the daily lives of our Hispanic consumers. The result also reinforces Nielsen’s findings that terrestrial broadcast radio reaches 97% of the national Hispanic population each week.

These recent ratings rank WSKQ-FM as not only the most-listened-to station in the Metropolitan New York/New Jersey/Connecticut area, but also as the #1 Latino station in the nation.

The Value of Learning a Second Language

Many academic hubs advocate the use of learning a second language, yet many people in the Nation have not attempted, or do not even have an interest in putting a second language under their belt. This is a sad truth, and one that needs to change if the United States wishes to climb forward to a more prosperous future of global interdependence in the world. With countries coming together in trade and business, and cultures being shared all over the world, it is necessary that Americans begin to have some understanding of the differences.

The United States population accounts for only 4% of the world, according to The United States Census. With such a small percentage of the world, it’s crazy to think that people live their lives believing that the United States is everything that the world has to offer. So many opportunities are beyond the borders, and yet the barriers of language and culture prevent Americans from gaining them. The answer is learning a language other than English. This decision is not as difficult as it seems, and only takes a little bit of effort to get enough understanding under you to make basic communications with people from other countries.

With another language in hand, Jesus Salas made his way up the ladder of the Radio Broadcasting industry, and is now the Executive Vice President of Programming for the Spanish Broadcasting System. Because of his knowledge of the Spanish language, he was given this amazing opportunity to promote himself and achieve excellent success in radio broadcasting from a very young age. If it weren’t for his diversity, Jesus may have not gotten the skills needed to make his way to the top as one of the nation’s radio broadcasting leaders.

El ZOl 106.7 WXDJ-FM was awarded the “Medallas de Cortez” radio station of the year at the Hispanic Conference hosted by Radio Ink.

This conference inspires stations, brands, advertisers, media companies, and those working in Hispanic radio and inform them about how to best take advantage of the power of Hispanic culture and consumerism across the USA today. Not only will this conference reveal strategy and tactics to increase investment by advertisers into the Hispanic radio sector, it will empower and arm those who manage, sell and program Hispanic radio and Hispanic radio platforms with the data and tools necessary to growing audience and revenues.
